Technology is a wondrous thing - but sometimes we lose sight of the good that technology can bring to the world.
defrag conference will be held this November in Broomfield, Colorado. defrag has always been an event that is all about thought leadership, pushing the boundaries and deep ideas - it's the perfect event with which to partner to run a pre-event BarCamp.
The Technology4Good BarCamp will specifically focus on using technology to bring about change for good. A BarCamp is an attendee driven event – therefore there is no predetermined agenda. That said we’re expecting themes to develop around crises recovery, environmental advocacy and third world aid – we’d imagine many other topics will be raised before and during the event.
For more information or to inquire about sponsoring the event contact firstname.lastname@example.org
We'd also love to get feedback on suggested topics, possible speakers and topic areas - if you have some ideas, don't be a stranger!
When & Where
Diversity Limited in association with defrag
Update - Robert Collazo from Rackspace to speak. Rackspace has a pretty awesome record of combining social good with a for-profit business. Robert Collazo will join us to tell of some of the initiatives that they've embarked upon to bring benefit to the community...
Update - Change of Timing
Just letting you all know that the timing for the Barcamp has changed to the 17th of November. For defrag attendees this means that it's being held on the evening of defrag day one which should reduce logistical hassles. It also means we can leverage the infrastructure that will be in place for defrag itself.
It's important to note that barcamp attendees who are not going to defrag will not be able to access the venue till 7:15pm. The barcamp itself will begin at 7:30 sharp. However (and this is pretty darn exciting) Barcamp registrants can, thanks to the generosity of the defrag organizers, get a cool 15% off the admission price to defrag - just use code "kepesevent" when registering.
Sorry for any confusion - the joys of conference wrangling!
Big news - Rackspace has come on board as platinum sponsor for the event. After a very quick discussion with Rackspace that included me seeing some amazing social good initiatives they're involved with, it became apparent that Rackspace is quintessentially a company that shows what Technology4Good can do.
We're really excited to have them on board and in the next few days will let you all know who from their organization will be at the event.
Big props to the fine folks from Atlassian. Not only do they make great products in an ethical way, they also use their influence to make the world a better place for others.
Atlassian has come on board as our first sponsor of the Barcamp and Jay Simons from Atlassian will talk about hwo they've managed to raise over $600,000 dollars for Room to Read with their starter license program.
